SARAH MAE ART BY SARAH MAE FRANCIS.
HAND CRAFTED METAL SCULPTURES CREATED FROM SCRAP PARTS AND SHEET METAL, VERY CREATIVE AND INVENTIVE UPCYCLING

Sarah Mae Francis is a metal sculpture artist from Rossendale, Lancashire. She started welding when she was 16 years old, she learnt how to weld from her dad, who gave her a five second lesson, saying “there’s a welder, there’s a grinder, crack on”.
Sarah has always been artistic, starting with drawing and painting throughout her school years, but was more interested in sculpture. She learnt throughout high school and college she couldn’t progress in this field of work as the teachers simply couldn’t teach it. So, she learnt how to teach herself, looking at inspiration from other metal sculpture artists, as well as, involving her love for animals.
Sarah also loves the idea of making items live on, in most of her sculptures she has incorporated old tools which have had a value to someone, at some point, and with evolution of technology etc. they are now considered useless and scrap. “One mans trash is another mans treasure”.

Learning along the way Sarah produced her first piece “Rusty” a life size horse. Rusty was created using many scrap car parts and retired tools. Rusty is now a well traveled horse, who has put a smile on many peoples faces, across the UK, going to events such as The Royal Lancashire Agriculture Show 2022 (both Sarah’s and Rusty’s first outing), The Restoration Show and Auto-Sport International 2023 at Birmingham NEC, Your Horse Live and even The Grand National 2023.

Sarah was approached by Sir Jackie Stewart at the Auto-Sport International 2023 show, who very kindly invited both Sarah and Rusty to The Grand National 2023, in aid to raise money for Sir Jackie’s Charity Race Against Dementia. A disease which Sarah sadly knows all too well about.
